At the BugWorld Experience, we feel very strongly about keeping our experience sustainable. We have, wherever possible, used environmentally friendly, recycled and energy saving products and we have been designed to minimise our carbon footprint for the future.
Our aim is to ensure that we operate in an environmentally responsible way to:
During the fit out of the BugWorld Experience, the historical fabric of the building was retained, leaving much of the existing slate flooring and brick wall surface exposed.
Some ways which we are meeting our aims:
Most ambient lighting in our building is low energy fluorescent, while displays use energy efficient discharge lamps. The lighting in public areas is activated on entry.
Where possible, all our timber has come from a sustainable source or is recycled railway sleepers.
Recycled black rubber mixed with coloured synthetic rubber granules creates a sustainable, long-lasting and environmentally friendly flooring surface.
The mosaics in our toilets are made from recycled glass
Expanded polystyrene, made of recycled materials, is used to form exhibition set pieces such as the paper wasp nest. Stable and inert, it is itself easily recycled to make other products such as garden furniture, coat hangers and disposable cameras.
Where possible, we stock products made of recycled plastics and paper, using water based inks and glues and paper produced without chloride bleaching agents.
Our 100% recyclable bags are made locally, supporting the local economy and reducing our carbon footprint.
And as for the bugs…..
