Blood, sweat and cheers

In the last week our collection has expanded like you wouldn’t believe.
We now have 140 thorny stick insect nymphs and the hissing cockroaches have also had another batch of babies – about 80 in the last couple of days. Keeping an eye on all these kids is a full time job, they get everywhere.

A Sticky Week

Things have finally settled down after the hectic week leading up to halloween. Some good news is that our thorny stick insects have had babies. The female stick insects laid the eggs around July so we had to wait patiently for these to hatch. It can take up to 6 months for the eggs [...]

Birth bonanza at BugWorld.

Hi Everyone
Quite a few things to tell you about this week.
We now have 47 rosy wolf snail babies out of the 49 eggs that were laid, which is fantastic news. Hopefully the other two rosy wolf snail eggs should hatch in a couple of days.

Extinct Snails Arrive at BugWorld

Hi Guys Its Mike here,
Really exciting news this week our Partula snails arrived, the species we have are extinct in the wild and where only found on one island called Huahine. We are one of two collections in the UK where you can see these beautiful snails on display.

Rhinos on the rampage!

Hi there,
An exciting update with the Rhino beetles, 2 stunning females have now emerged from there cocoons. Hopefully we should get a male from one of the remaining 3 cocoons and then we can breed the little beauties.

Feeding Time at the Zoo

Another exciting week at BugWorld, we received 2 more spiders. One from my old colleagues at Knowsley safari park they had found a spider in bananas which they feed to the elephants.

Hi Everyone Jeff here.
We have had another fun filled week at Bugworld.
Our Orchid Mantis that is on show has finally had her final moult so now she is an adult. Its brilliant because now she has the ability to fly. This is often the case for alot of species of mantids.
